How do I set up app notifications?

The app asks for notification permission on first launch, and that permission is what lets alerts reach your phone. After that you choose which kinds you want from the notification settings screen. The unread badge inside the app updates the moment a notification arrives, without you opening anything. If you decline permission, everything still works inside the app; nothing reaches you outside it.

Permission first

On first launch the app asks for notification permission. That permission is what allows an alert to reach your phone while you are outside the app.

If you decline, nothing breaks: notifications still collect inside the app and you see them when you open it, but nothing arrives outside it. You can change your mind later in your phone's own settings.

Choosing the kinds

From notification settings, choose what you want to be told about and what to ignore. The same settings apply to your account on both the app and the website.

The badge updates immediately

The unread count in the app updates the moment a notification arrives, not when you open the screen and not every few minutes. What you see is the state right now.

If nothing is arriving

Check in this order:

  1. Notification permission for the app in your phone's settings.
  2. Which kinds are enabled in notification settings.
  3. Do Not Disturb or a focus mode on the phone.
